Beach Trip

Last weekend we went one last beach trip for the year. This would be Kayla's 1st beach trip. We were just imagining how she would react. I remember Dorian's 1st beach trip, true he was 2 and loved it, I was thinking the same for Kayla. I was off...WAYYYYY off!! When she was younger she had a major dislike for grass. She would not stand in it...barefoot or with shoes. When we would go to set her down, she would curl up her legs so far as if that would prevent her from touching the ground. Finally one day at my grandma's we set her down and she overcame her fear. Well the same was true for sand. Dee went to set her in it, and she curled her feet so far up. She would not walk in it. We thought maybe she couldn't get her balance in the dry sand, but no, she was the same with the firm, wet sand. We would stand there and cry with her arms up waiting for someone to pick her up. We tried to lead her to the water...at first she was excited, but not for long...as soon as the waves came and knocked her down, she thought she had enough. We took her into the ocean. The beauty of this beach the waves only break about 10 feet then it's just rolling waves in your knee to waist region. She loved it!!! She wanted to get down in it, not so much when water hit her face. I do remember the 1st day when I set her in the sand after a stint in the ocean, she did not like the sand being on her foot, so she tried to wipe it off with her hand, and you can guess what happened...that's right sand on her hand. She wanted to play but was not willing to stand or walk in the sand. Our day at the beach was short lived. That afternoon she did enjoy sitting at the edge of the water with our friend Sandy and letting the water hit her.

Day 2 was much better! At first she was the same about the sand, but she finally came around and we couldn't get her to stop running around.

One chance to catch both Dorian and Kayla...

Another 1st for our family, well for Dee, Dorian and Kayla, was riding the ferry. I have never seen a family so happy to be on a boat with our car.

Kayla and I...her favorite place on the ferry...she loved looking over the edge at the water

This beach trip was short, but a great get-away. We were able to make more memories with the kids. As a parent, making memories and childhoods the best I can are my ultimate goals. I used to go to this area when I was growing up, and it was so special to share it with my family. I am tired of the Myrtle Beach scene. I want more of these small NC beaches, with close driving distances to attractions and big cities, like Wilmington. Hopefully we will go back to this beach. I did not realize we could have climbed to the top of the lighthouse that was there, an advance reservation. That will be on my to-do list next time.

Entire group...Love you family :)
